Kyoung-Jin Shin, Professor

BioSketch:
Kyoung-Jin Shin studied dentistry at Yonsei University. He earned his M.S. in Forensic Odontology at Yonsei University in 1999, and received his Ph.D. in Forensic Genetics at Yonsei University in 2002. He is currently professor and Chair of the Department of Forensic Medicine, Yonsei University College of Medicine.
Prof. Shin's early work in forensic genetics was focused on DNA typing of old skeletal remains. He has participated in the national projects for a long time such as tracing casualties from Korean War through DNA typing and genetic analysis of mummies from several medieval tombs. His intensive efforts in the analysis of sequence variations and phylogeny of mtDNA have led to the development of a web-based forensic bioinformatics resource, mtDNAmanager (http://mtmanager.yonsei.ac.kr).
Other topics of interest include the population genetics of ABO blood group, X-chromosomal STR and Y-chromosomal STR/SNP in Koreans and its application to forensic genetic investigations. He designed also prototypes of Koreanized commercial STR multiplex PCR systems, Kplex Kit series. More recently, he has developed NGS panels for forensic analysis of mitochondrial DNA, autosomal/Y-chromosomal STR and microhaplotype markers.

Hwan Young Lee, Professor

BioSketch:
Hwan Young Lee received her Ph.D. degree in Yonsei University in 2001 in the field of Biochemistry. Following one year of postdoctoral study at Protein Network Research Center in Yonsei University, she moved to the Forensic Department at Yonsei University College of Medicine in 2003.
Prof. Lee's early work in the area of forensic genetics was focused on the construction of Korean mtDNA phylogeny, and the recent phase of her career focused on the application of DNA methylation profiling to forensic body fluid identification. The most recent interest of Lee is to expand the application of DNA methylation profiling to the analysis of casework samples for investigative leads.

Sang Eun Jung

Sang Eun is mainly interested in DNA methylation study for age estimation. She has participated in age estimation using blood-specific methylation profiles. The most recent interest of Jung is to expand the application of next generation sequencing to forensic genetics.

Eun Hee Lee
